This Summer in Medina: Guardians Youth Baseball & Softball Camp

posted in: Blog | 0

We keep getting little glimpses of Spring weather and I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for the warm weather and sunshine to stick around. This is the time of year when we all start seeing the light at the end of the Winter tunnel and start looking forward to the fun Spring and Summer activities.

This is also the time of year we all start looking forward to the Cleveland Guardians Home Opener, which is coming on April 8th! Even though it seems like Summer is still a little ways off, did you know this is also the time to start planning and registering your kiddos for Summer Camps? This is especially true for extremely popular camps such as a camp run by the Cleveland Guardians team.

This Summer, the Guardians Youth Summer Camp is coming to the Medina Recreation Center the week of July 8th – 12th!

I will share what you can expect from the camp experience in this article but first I want to share the additional things that are included in the camp fee:

  • The kids get to meet a past or present Guardians players while at camp.
  • They will receive 2 tickets to a Guardians Camp reunion game.
  • The kids will receive a full Guardians uniform.
  • There will be a skills competition.
  • Video Swing Analysis (optional, extra fee of $60)

Guardians Youth Summer Camp Details at Medina Recreation Center

This week-long camp is for boys and girls ages 6-14 who are interested in baseball or softball, from those who are already very skilled to those who are just beginning. Either way, the experience will be top-notch and about as close to playing and practicing like the Cleveland Guardians as you can get.

Since safety is a top priority along with the goal of learning, players will be paired by age AND ability. The players will remain together all week with their coach to build trust and friendships with their team. Until the players feel comfortable using the regulation baseballs, they will use tennis balls, whiffle balls, and safety balls to ensure the kids build their confidence in their skills.

The coaches and instructors are high-quality expert coaches who are qualified and passionate about teaching the sport. The Guardians put all of their coaches and instructors through a background check and ensure they are “U.S. Center for SafeSport Certified” as required by Major League Baseball. These coaches and instructors will lead your kids through 30 hours of baseball instruction.

Can You Use a Dependent Care FSA to Pay for Camp?

If you have a Dependent Care FSA with your employer, it is worth checking to see if this camp would be a qualifying expense. With that, you still have to pay for the camp but it helps you save on your taxes since contributions to your Dependent Care FSA helps to lower your taxable income.

Things to Pack so Your Child is Prepared & Ready for Camp:

You might be wondering what you need to send with your child to camp and that is a great question. Be sure to send a water bottle, lunch, bat & glove. You may also want to send sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Be sure to put your child’s name on all of their items. I have found that stickers like these are perfect to put their name on all the items you don’t want to lose from water bottles to clothing and more.
