I don’t know about you but it is about this time of year when my family and I start looking for new things to do. The holidays are over and it is that time of year when it is tempting to just stay inside until warmer weather gets here.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with getting cozy on the couch and watching movies but my daughter will only stand for that for a short amount of time before we need to do something that wears her out a little more!
If you are looking to have some fun or maybe need a change of scenery, here are 10 things to do in Medina County this Winter!
- THIS SUNDAY 1/22/2023 from 9AM – 3PM – The Cleveland Reptile Show at the Medina Fairgrounds (in the west hall of the Community Center) Admission is $5 Learn more on their website.
- Medina Ice Festival 2/17/2023 – 2/20/2023 – If you have never been to this, I highly recommend checking it out. It is so fun to walk around and see all the ice creations. We also enjoy stopping in to our favorite local stores on the square as we walk around including but not limited to a warm drink from Cool Beans and some popcorn from Something’s Popping.
- Participate in a hike or program with the Medina County Park District. Did you know they have a calendar of events on their website? Some you need to register for and some you don’t, most (if not all) are free! They really do an awesome job coming up with things to offer the community and help people to enjoy the parks more. You can also view a list of their locations broken out by parks, nature preserves, and wildlife sanctuaries which is helpful so you can plan the kind of adventure you and your family are looking for!
- Alien Vacation Mini Golf (in 3D) – This is one of my daughter’s absolute favorite things to do, so much so that we had her birthday party here and all of her friends had a blast! I don’t want to tell you what to do but following this up with frozen yogurt from Lemonberry makes for a really fun day!
- Libraries have a lot of different program options including story times for kids of all ages, seminars, “meet the author” and more. You can view the Medina County Library calendar here and here is the calendar for Wadsworth library.
- Paint pottery – My family loves painting pottery at places like All Fired Up! in Medina or Kathryn’s Craft Closet in Wadsworth. It is a great way to spend a cold day and painting something for someone also makes a great gift. Add your kiddos hand print for a gift for a grandparent, have your child paint something for a friend or family member, or have your family design a new platter to have at home!
- If / when we get enough snow – sledding is always a lot of fun! Here is a list of sledding hills in the area with a description of what kind of hill it is (for beginners all the way to the risk-takers!)
- Go ice skating indoors at Alice Noble Ice Arena in Wooster. I know this one isn’t in Medina County but it isn’t too far away. We haven’t been here yet but have heard from others that it is fun and very affordable. You can view their calendar to find public skate times. (they have free admission from time to time as well and it is listed on the calendar.)
- Make your own scented candle at Sense by the Falls. I know this one isn’t in Medina either but when I posted about making a candle when we went to Columbus, someone commented that they just opened this candle making store in Cuyahoga Falls. When we went to Penn & Beech in Columbus, it was a lot of fun to put scents together to make our own candle creation.
- Make homemade playdough – it is really easy and fun!
If you and your family try out one of the ideas above, let us know how it goes! And if you have more ideas, be sure to share them with us in the comments below. Have fun!
